The Big Island, Hawaii. The island of Hawaii—nicknamed The Big Island—is famous for surfing, diving, and snorkeling. The state of Hawaii consists of eight main islands, with Hawaii Island being the largest and most populous, though Maui and Oahu are major tourist destinations. Two of the most active volcanoes in the world are on The Big Island.
Kaunaoa Beach, aka Mauna Kea Beach, is the most famous, but great underwater life awaits you at Waialea Bay (Beach 69) and Puako Bay. In these areas, you enter the water from the boat ramp. While Hapuna Beach is great to enjoy the Hawaiian sun, snorkeling here is just decent compared to neighboring spots. Near the northern tip of Big Island
Snorkeling is good in several locations across the bay, both the northern and southern edges as well as the rockier area in the middle. Due to the shallower water, you have good visibility throughout much of the bay, but watch for surges when you are near the rocks in the center.
In central Florida is the wonderful area of Ginnie Springs, which is renowned for its excellent snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. The waters remain a lovely 72 degrees all year round and are perfectly clear. There are various springs to explore, including Ginnie Spring, Devil's Ear, and Devil's Eye.
